Configuration of FalconStor RecoveryTrac

Please refer to steps below on the Configuration of FalconStor RecoveryTrac

  1. Prepare a clean Windows 2012R2 Server with latest patches installed ** Cannot be Domain Controller or Workstation

  2. Ensure that ISCSI Services is started

Get-Service | ? name -like "*iscsi*" | Start-Service
  1. Download and install IMA – IMA-SDM-3.01-833-Windows.exe (40MB) and register to FalconStor CDPVA at DR

  2. Download and install RecoveryTac 3.00 Build 1513 and install by accepting all default settings

Preparation of ISCSI for ESXi 6.5 and FalconStor CDPVA in DR Site

  1. Enable ISCSI and add Dynamic Target to CDPVA in DR Site. Record down the IQN name and add it to CDPVA later

  2. Right click on SAN Client –> Add to create a new ISCSI for ESXi 6.5. Please verify the ISCSI Option is enabled by right click on the CDPVA –> Options –> Enable ISCSI

  3. Click Next

  4. Select the IQN of ESXi 6.5 Server or add it manually

  5. Select allow unauthenticated access

  6. Client Type=VMware, and enter the IP Address of ESXi Server

  7. SAN Client for ESXi Server is created successfully

  8. Ensure that TimeMark is enabled for the replica Disk

Configuration of RecoveryTrac

  1. Start the Configuration Wizard

  2. Click on DR and make DR Site as Local Site

  3. Ensure that both CDPVA is registered and status is CONNECTED

  4. Click Next to ignore the vCenter page, and register the standalone ESXi 6.5 server

  5. ESXi host is registered
    CDPVA-RecoveryTrac-14

  6. Click Add Physical to add the Physical Server in Production Site protected by CDPVA
    CDPVA-RecoveryTrac-15

  7. Enter the Hostname & IP Address of the Physical Server with valid Credential to login
    CDPVA-RecoveryTrac-16

  8. Click Next

  9. Add the SAN Client that attached to the Physical Server

  10. Ensure that Boot Device is assigned to the protected SAN resource in Production CDPVA

  11. Click Add Virtual Machine and Create VM to provision a Temporary VM to boot up with the replica disk via RDM

  12. Assign the hardware resources, like vCPU, RAM, DataStore and vNIC for the Temporary VM

  13. Click Next of Assign an Static IP for the VM – it will boot up with his assigned IP Address

  14. Click “Create a New SAN Client on the select Storage Server for this machines when the jobs runs

  15. Enter the valid credential to login to CDPVA

  16. New SAN Client created successfully and click next to continue

  17. Ensure that the Boot Devices is selected with the Replica Disk

  18. Click Next

  19. Configuration Wizard completed

  20. The Host Images, Hypervisor Servers and Storage Server is added with new items that we configured in Wizard

Creating a New Recovery Job
1. Right Click Recovery Job –> Add Recovery Job

  1. Select the Cluster and Host Image and Recovery Site = DR (Local Site)

  2. Click Edit

  3. Protected Source Machine – UAT-WIN2012R2

  4. Recovery Machine – UAT-WIN2012R2DR – Temporary VM that will be power on via RDM from the Replica Disk

  5. Click Finish

  6. Ensure the Status is Configured

  7. Select Job Mode and Snapshot to use for recovery
    CDPVA-RecoveryTrac-37

  8. Accpet the default and click finish
    CDPVA-RecoveryTrac-38

Recovery Job is configured successfully now

Perform Test Recovery
1. Right Click on the Recovery Job created and Run Job

  1. Run in Test Mode to test whether the Server can be recovered

  2. Accept the default value
    CDPVA-RecoveryTrac-41

  3. Server is up and running now

login to vSphere Web Client, and verify UAT-WIN2012R2DR is up and running

Right Click on the Recovery Job and select End Job once you had tested the VM is recovered successfully.
