Fresh Installation of FalconStor CDPVA

Please refer to the steps below on how to perform Fresh Installation of FalconStor CDPVA in my lab

Provisioning of CDPVA

  1. Download the CDPVA 8.0 (Install-6.4.181-VA-IPStor-8.00-8535.OEL6U5.OVF) from FalconStor Customer Support Portal – Valid Support Agreement is required

  2. Import the OVF to vSphere 6.5 Standard Alone Host

  3. It will consume 4 x vCPU, 4GB RAM, 20GB Disk Space (Thin Provision) and 4 x vNIC when first power on

  4. Login to the CDPVA console with default Username = root Password = IPStor101

  5. Configure Hostname, Timezone, Root Password, Network Configuration, Default Gateway, Name Server & NTP Server

Assign IP Address to eth0, and leave other ethX as default

Installation of FalconStor Management Console

  1. Download and install IPStor-Console-8.0.0-8910-04.exe from FalconStor Customer Support Portal

  2. Connect to CDPVA via IP Address by entering the 30 Days Evaluation License key and skip Step 2 & 3 as it had been configured during setup

Apply latest patch for CDPVA

  1. Verify the version installed via SSH or Console
[root@CDPVA01 ~]# ipstor

FalconStor IPStor Server  version 8.00 (Build 8535)

Usage: /usr/local/ipstor/bin/ipstor <start|stop|restart|status>
  1. Download UpgradeIPStorTo8.00SP5 from FalconStor Customer Support Portal

  2. Upload UpgradeIPStorTo8.00SP5 the to CDPVA using SCP

scp UpgradeIPStorTo8.00SP5 [email protected]:/tmp
  1. Login to CDPVA via SSH to install the patch
[root@CDPVA tmp]# ./UpgradeIPStorTo8.00SP5
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing patch upgrading to version 8.00 SP5; cannot be rolled back; must be applied on the server and not via the management console.......
  IPStor is running. This script will stop all modules.

   Type YES if you want to continue: YES

  Patch UpgradeIPStorTo8.00SP5

IPStor configuration exists. If you need to reset the configuration,
go to /usr/local/ipstor/bin and manually run ./ipstor setup

  1. Verify the IPStor had been upgraded to build 8916 successfully

Add Additional Disks for Data Storage

  1. Stop the IPSTOR services and shutdown CDPVA to add additional disk for Data Storage
[root@CDPVA01 ~]# ipstor stop all

FalconStor IPStor Server  version 8.00 (Build 8916)

All virtual devices are going to be detached.
We recommend stopping all IPStor client services prior to shutdown.
Otherwise, data loss may occur.

shutdown -halt now
  1. Add an additional 50 GB Hard Disk (Thin Provisioning) to CDPVA and power it on

  2. The new 50 GB Hard Disk is detected automatically in Falconstor Management Console

  1. Click Prepare Disk –> Reserved for Virtual Device — YES

  2. Right Click Storage Pool to create a new storage pool

  1. Right click on Server Node and go to Option – Enable ISCSI

Falconstor CDPVA is ready to be used now and proceed to protect Windows server refering to Protect Windows Server with FalconStor DiskSafe Agent
