Steps to join Synology NAS to AD Domain
Preparation of Synology NAS in ESXi 6.7
- Download and import the ready made Synology OVA to ESXi 6.7
- Create a new Disk Pool & Volume by following this link
Preparation of Shared Folder in Synology NAS
Create a new File Share in Control Panel – File Sharing – Shared Folder – Create
Click Next to continue
Click Next to continue
Click Next to continue
Click Apply to complete the creation of Shared Folder
Assign Folder Permission to local users
Accessing the Shared Folder from Windows Machine by entering the local username & password
Users can access to Shared Folder in Synology NAS with local credential
Join Synology NAS to AD Domain
Enter the information for your AD Domain following the screenshot below, and enter the credential for Domain Administrator when prompted
Click on Domain Status Check to ensure that there is no error found
Users & Groups from AD Domain should be displayed in Domain Users & Domain Group tab
Click on Update Domain Data to refresh if the newly created user or group cannot be found
Assign the Domain AD Group – UAT-Group to have Read / Write permission for SharedFolders
Verify the Group Permission was assigned successfully from Windows Machine
Domain users who is member of UAT-Group should be able to access SharedFolders via \NAS_IP\SharedFolderswith the domain credential now
