Steps to upgrade VCSA 6.5U2 to 6.7U1 with CLI

  1. Download the vCenter Appliance 6.7U1 ISO

IMPORTANT: Upgrade from vCenter Server 6.5 Update 2d to 6.7 Update 1 is not supported because this patch released after 6.7 Update 1 and is considered a back in time upgrade.

  1. Make a copy of embedded_vCSA_onESXi.json in D:\vcsa-cli-installer\templates\upgrade\vcsa6.5 to C:\Temp\UpgradeVCSA65To67_on_ESXi.json and modify as below

Replace the appliance:name “” with a new VM name, as it cannot be the same VM name with the existing VCSA

Shutdown the newly deployed VCSA 6.7U1 and reduce the RAM from 16GB to 4GB RAM in my lab enviroment and power it on to verify all the existing settings are remaining as it is.

Lastly, you can safely delete the old VCSA 6.5 and start to use VCSA 6.7U1
